PAS Youth backing Himpun
PAS Youth will defy Selangor PAS’ directive to members not to attend tomorrow’s Himpunan Sejuta Ummah (Himpun) aimed at pressuring the authorities to check apostasy.
PAS Youth chief Nasrudin Hassan said they would not abide by such directives issued by certain leaders.
“We are attending the event, as the PAS leadership did not issue any directive to stop members from participating in the event as individuals,” he said, in response to Selangor PAS’s directive to members not to attend the event scheduled at Shah Alam Stadium from 2pm to 6pm tomorrow.
PAS president Datuk Seri Abdul Hadi Awang had said the party would not officially participate in the gathering.
However, Hadi did not issue any directive stopping members from participating in the event.
Nasrudin, however, supported the call made by Minister in the Prime Minister’s Department Tan Sri Dr Koh Tsu Koon for Himpun to engage the Cabinet’s inter-faith panel to highlight concerns over apostasy.
“However, the gathering should proceed as planned, as it is an internal activity to strengthen the Muslim faith.
“Himpun can follow up by holding discourse with the inter-faith panel,” Nasrudin said.
Himpun secretariat joint chairman Dr Yusri Mohamad had said they would not allow participants to carry logos, banners and flags of political parties, as they did not want to fan political sentiments.
In PENANG, South-East Asia Inter-faith Dialogue chairman Dr Mujahid Yusof Rawa said the gathering could be exploited by those with vested interest.
“Inter-faith dialogues would be more effective in checking apostasy among Muslims,” he said.
