Former Dungun MP dies in crash

Former Dungun MP and Umno veteran Datuk Awang Jabbarwas killed in a head-on collision between his car and another vehicle early Tuesday.

A foreigner also died in the accident.

It is learnt that Awang was heading towards Dungun for the Deputy Prime Minister’s dialogue with party veterans, when his Mercedes crashed into a Perodua Alza at KM26 of the Kuala Terengganu-Kuantan road near Marang, at 7.10am.

Awang, current special advisor to the Mentri Besar on Islamic matters, was in the front seat passenger of his car. His driver was injured.

The foreigner, a Yemenese in her 20s, was travelling with five other family members to Kuala Terengganu, en route to Pulau Redang.

Marang OCPD Deputy Supt Ahmad Mazlan said police were still investigating the incident.
