MACC to quiz DAP duo over black market activities
Two Penang DAP leaders are expected to be called up by the Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission (MACC) over allegations that rampant black market activities are denying eligible applicants for low-medium-cost (LMC) housing.
Penang Housing Committee chairman Wong Hon Wai and Jelutong MP Jeff Ooi are among several leaders to be questioned, said state MACCdirector Datuk M. Samarajoo.
The investigation was launched after the MACC received a report from Parti Cinta Malaysia national Youth chief Liew Yeow Hooi on Aug 9.
“I can confirm that we have received a report and we are looking into the matter. Let us do our job,” said Samarajoo.
Ooi was quoted in a recent newspaper report as alluding that rampant black market activities were the reasons that eligible applicants were denied LMC housing in his constituency.
Ooi, the chief of staff of Chief Minister Lim Guan Eng, was recently issued a severe reprimand by DAP for going to the media in his spat with Wong over the issue.
Ooi had called for Wong’s resignation over the matter. Both have since buried the hatchet.
